During a seminar on “Present status and future plan for magnetic Materials and device industries”, held on 10th & 11th August 1973 at the Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Hyderabad, the learned participants, under the initiative of Late. Dr. R. V. Tamahankar, deliberated upon establishing a “National Forum” exclusively for Magnetics. A decision was then reached to form a technical society meant for professionals, academicians, researchers, manufacturers and users in the field of Magnetics. After formulating the rules & regulations, the “Magnetics Society of India” as a registered professional body came into existence on the 3rd Nov. 1973 at Hyderabad with its office located in the premise of DMRL, Kanchanbagh, Hyderabad-500 058.
The new born society, comprising about 30 members with financial support of about Rs.15,000/-, had started functioning under the able guidance of Late. Dr.R.V.Tamhankar – the founder president of the Society. The main objective of MSI, among several others, is to bring together all those who work in the field of Magnetics, to a common forum for dissemination of technical information, sharing of technical facilities, assessing the technical needs of industries and promoting a strong interaction among academicians, technocrats and entrepreneurs. Towards this objective, the society embarked upon itself to conduct National Seminars on Magnetics at important places of interest on the subject.
